Adventure Overview
In this one-shot, players are plunged into the steam and shadow of Ironwic, a city where industrial innovation meets arcane mystery. The adventure begins when Ronald Adair, a wealthy merchant, hires the characters to guard machinery bound for the city of Brasshaven. The meeting takes place at the Cavendish, a private gambling club, where they meet Adair and his card-playing partner, Colonel Sebastian Moran.
As the players engage in a card game, they notice possible cheating. The next day, the players are shocked to find themselves implicated in Adair’s murder after he is found dead in his locked room, with a bullet wound in his head and no firearm in sight. Chief Investigator Lestrade, along with the city constables, questions the players, revealing key details of the murder.
The twist comes when the players meet Detective Holmes who believes that Adair’s murder is connected to a larger plot. Holmes suspects that the players might be the next targets. Their meeting is interrupted by an attack from an unseen sniper, solidifying his theory.
The players must navigate the dangerous streets of Ironwic, from the Steamcaster's Guild to the seedy Undercity, facing challenges and ambushes, including steam-powered automatons. They must use their wits, skills, and Holmes' guidance to outmaneuver Moran.
